A-Z: Famous stories from the Bible: Jesus and the children

Definition

Jesus had spent a long time teaching the crowds. Some women, believing him to Jesus welcomes the childrenbe special and sent from God, brought their children to him. They hoped that he would place his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples tried to send the women away, telling them that Jesus could not be bothered with their children, as he was too busy.

Jesus, however, insisted that the children should not be prevented from coming to him and declared that they represented those to whom a place in God’s kingdom is given. Then he placed his hands on them in blessing.

The story illustrates:

  • The Christian belief that Jesus affirms and cares for those who may be seen as unimportant by some.
