Definition

1. Key Old Testament figure, exiled to Babylon. A young nobleman taken captive by Nebuchadnezzar, Babylon's king. Daniel interpreted dreams. Thrown into the lions' den because he refused to stop praying to the God of Israel (Daniel 6:1-28). On release, he was elevated to high rank in the Babylonian & Persian kingdoms. Also the hero of the Apocryphal books Susanna and the Elders and Bel and the Dragon. 2. Old Testament book which tells the story of Daniel and includes apocayptic visions.
