12th century archdeacon of Oxford.  He wrote Dissuasio Valerii ad Rufinum philosophum ne uxorem ducat (The Letter of Valerius to Ruffinus against Marriage).  Chaucer’s Wife of Bath calls it Valerie/ Valerye.  Anti-feminist in tone, it details the disadvantages of marriage.
