Definition

(1759-1833) A politician most famous for his role in the abolition of the slave trade in Britain. He became involved in politics in 1780 and became a Christian in 1785. This dramatically influenced his political life, causing him to seek reforms in many areas. He died three days after hearing that the Slavery Abolition Act was to be accepted by parliament.
