Definition

English Renaissance king famous for having six wives (Catharine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Catherine Howard, Katherine Parr). In order to remarry and thereby conceive a male heir, Henry divorced two wives and executed two more. In obtaining his first divorce, Henry VIII broke away from the Catholic Church, establishing himself as the head of the new Church of England. This heralded the English Reformation.
