Definition

A town south of Jerusalem. The birthplace of David and Jesus, over which the star hovered at the Nativity (Luke 2:4-7; Matthew 2:1-12) Also the location of the slaughter by King Herod's soldiers of all the baby boys under two, known as the massacre of the innocents (Matthew 2:16-18).
